About the Youth Commission

The Youth Commission was instituted in July 1991 by City Ordinance 74024:

  • “The goals and objectives of the commission will be to respond to current situations affecting young persons, and to develop solutions for problems to be presented to the Mayor and City Council Members.”

  • “The Youth Commission will further work toward unifying the youth of San Antonio into a positive force for the good of the community.”

  • The Commission is comprised of two appointed members per city district, plus two mayor’s appointees. Council members appoint young leaders in high school from their district to serve on the Commission for two-year terms.

As the Mayor’s youth board, the Commission works to address important issues affecting the youth of San Antonio. Working with the city, non-profit organizations, and businesses, the Youth Commission ensures that the voice of the youth is heard. While participating in projects and events sponsored by other city groups, the Commission organizes its own programs to positively impact the youth of San Antonio.
